Overview
The Gondar City School Project (GCSP) was initiated by Habibu Takele, together with members of the Gondar community including Semira Afendi and Abubeker Sulieman, to rebuild the school they once attended. The classrooms had deteriorated over generations, creating an unfair learning environment and limiting the potential of young students. With a strong belief in giving back, the initiative called on the Ethiopian community within and abroad to contribute to the betterment of future generations.
Through fundraising, word of mouth, community events, and personal networks, the group successfully rebuilt and constructed over four schools. However, despite their impactful work, GCSP lacked a clear identity, branding, and online presence to help them expand their reach and attract broader support.
Problem
While GCSP had already achieved remarkable results through community-driven efforts, they faced several challenges:
Lack of awareness and visibility: Their work was known mostly within close circles, limiting potential donor reach.
No unified brand identity: Without a logo, name recognition, or visual identity, it was difficult to establish trust and credibility with new supporters.
Absence of an online presence: Relying solely on word-of-mouth and offline fundraisers restricted their ability to share their story with a wider audience, especially the global Gondar diaspora who could have been key contributors.
Solution
We volunteered to build a strong, recognizable brand and a digital platform to showcase their work.
Brand Identity: We designed a logo incorporating the Gondar Castle, a powerful cultural symbol, and chose the name Gondar City School Project to make their mission instantly clear. Bright colors like orange and green were selected to reflect youth, growth, and education.
Website Development: We created a digital space that told their story, showcased their completed projects, and provided clear calls to action. Visitors could now easily donate, volunteer, or provide resources.
Community Engagement: With a consistent brand and an accessible online presence, GCSP now has the tools to reach beyond their immediate network, attract new supporters, and sustain momentum for future school projects.
The result is a professional identity and platform that empowers them to scale their mission, turning local passion into a global cause.
